Sabotage and Censure

Post by Yallz » Wed Jul 15, 2020 1:36 am

In a number of different instances this age it has become increasingly obvious that players can act detrimentally towards their own nation.

Whether this be by endlessly training at a distant border while their main starves for lack of leaders, or by misleading/lying/spamming and generally harassing other players. In any case the leadership and concerned players of that nation have very little recourse, because while HC can empower players it has no ability to censure or punish them for misdeeds. It cannot block them from accessing the telegram channels or even have the ability to remove their messages or stop them generally interfering with the well meaning players. I personally have been targeted with spam telephone calls by different players in order to disrupt me and my ability to communicate during a wheel i was planning.

These tactics as well as childish interference by apathetic players are a detriment to those who care about the game. Thus I propose that HC either need some privileges in national telegram channels (at the very least LD), the ability to mute or remove privileges of the chat members also being key amongst those; Or they need some in game way to incentivize players to act in the good of their nation, ideally both. Punishments could range from as harsh as taking away their ability to earn medals (ala forced safe mode) or as mild as a small detriment to their ability to earn gold (a tax of sorts).

Privileges would be harder to dispense as people would naturally use them for their own interests and those of their friends. Perhaps a kind of national daily income (not unlike KnC) That HC can choose to withhold from uncooperative players? Now of course some players wont be swayed by this, they just want to upset people our of their own pettiness, this is why I believe HC should have some of the strongest powers, to deny them access to communications, and the ability to set armies, in the most egregious cases. HCs that would abuse these powers will natural have players leave their nation, a consequence which they should hope for if they wish to use these powers (but with a permanent or semi-permanent affect to national strength, lest we allow HC to all but force-suicide players).

Below is an image of an admittedly humorous example of ONE of the above mentioned issues, but in this post I am talking about much more than simply this instance.

It sounds like you'd like a court martial feature.

I do like the sound of being able to mute/unmute people if you are the LD/HC. Is this a feature we could have implemented? It could really help during wheels -- I routinely see people PURPOSEFULLY trying to mess up wheels or give directions when they are not the planner. I respect people helping/executing, but if you are acting counter to the leadership or planner, it is no longer a "help" or benefit.

Captraining isn't explicitly against the rules but earlier in the age Finland had 3 captrainers. That equates to 8.8% of their playerbase at the time. 8.7% of your players not being in main or helping is a lot, especially when they are your high ranks. That reallllly sets a nation back! I'm not sure what the solution is other than increasing the playerbase though.

We used to have such a system and it was abused beyond belief.

Any type of system we have that allows one player to punish another will likely be abused - TLKers like to hold grudges which would mean someone being punished across ages, and that is not acceptable to me.

If you have someone being disruptive please report via the support link - whilst it will not give immediate relief it will allow me to look back over what happened and warn/remove/ban the person as needed to prevent a future occurrence.
