Interactive Tutorial Ideas

Post by Nuvelle » Thu Jul 16, 2020 9:36 am

We have been looking into having interactive tutorials for a while now, and I believe we are close to having a working technical solution.

So I am looking for ideas on WHAT should be in the tutorial? What would you want new players to be guided through, one step/click at a time?

We can have multiple tutorials covering multiple areas, not just one massive tutorial that people will forget about due to information overload.

I have always thought that a simplified version of the game would be the most ideal tutorial. A player that jumps into the game could quite easily think it's a single player game until they actually rank up and see it evolve before their eyes. So I think the milestone marks are good:
  • Start them at grey and show them how to train
Bump them to lieut and have them visit the castle and join a few strikeforces
Bump them to General and have them LEAD a few strikeforces
Realistically, what do you want the player to know? That their goal is going to be to rank up to some extent, that the goal of a nation is to survive and kill your foes, and that teamwork/timing is key. Illustrate the perks of ranking up in order to incentivize actually ranking up. There are a lot of more complex issues and items that they will learn about, such as heroes, army compositions, planning; however, the goal of a tutorial ultimately should be to help hold onto new players. This is a hard game to hop into as a new and inexperienced player unless a more experienced player actively reaches out. Once you get a player to a rank where they can contribute and are valuable to a nation, the fun really begins to start. That's when they start to ask questions and learn and adapt.

I think that if you are able to get a new player to rank up and get in the main, you DRASTICALLY improve your potential new player retention, especially if this person chats (ingame or telegram) with others in the nation. Getting new players to sign up is difficult, getting them to stick around long enough to learn the game is even more difficult. We should focus on ascertaining new players AS WELL AS improving player retention.
