Looks like the training skill was changed so it is a flat xp increase rather than an xp store.

What is the recommended amount of trainer for ranking armies per hero? PVP armies?

it really depends, if you're able to join a lot of SFs or are pvping then you could just put 10-12 trainer and be done with it. If you're primarily ranking without many sfs like the beginning of the age, I would dump at least 15 into each hero FIRST. before healing/merch/ect

Ye what Surus says is what I do normally, just dump some 10 or 15 on all to speed up hardcapping.
However, trainer gets handy when you get deads and need to rebuild easily to a certain exp to hardcap again after those deads.

If you are ranking;
1st-At least 17-18
2/3-20 each

As with the ranking armies you can reach gen* in the first run so trainer should be the first skill for each hero.
The way I see it is that you should get your first Master at 36-37k and 38-39k if unlucky(short runs).

10-15 trainer isn't worth it if you are ranking.
Without trainer per 1000xp you get 1600-1750(depending upon injuries)
With 15 trainer each in Ideal case you get your first Master at 35k(keeping max xp unit healed).
And in real scenario, it's around 40-42k.

With old system, you could go with 15 trainer and be hard-capped at 34-35k but doesn't work now.

Fat chance those numbers are right. You get about 1 to 1 com xp per unit xp with no trainer. Then 130% for trainer 10 on all. 158% in example. That's less than 65k at 40k com xp. At BEST. actual is an average amount of 60k unit xp. You will be new count before you get mst units. Nearly marq before new elite units and higher.
But if you put 25+ per hero, ideally more like 35 for supports, THEN and only then, will you have less issues with getting mst units. Add bulk sfs and its better chances. Which ofc incentivises group play. Pure ranking is just a dead sport.
