it just doesnt work for me, i cant zoom in...i just cant use it at all.
is it just cos of the santa mode? it moves to the right of my screen and wont let me do anything but zoom into iceland...

Hold shift. As is explained when you press the questionmark on the map.
With holding shift you can either move your mouse around to move into certain directions, or you can scroll in and out. Or even use the +/- in the right top corner of the map.
On phone you can just use your fingers to pinch for zooming in and out.
